A forest fire burning through the New Jersey Pinelands could become the largest fire in the state in almost 20 years, officials said Wednesday. The blaze in Barnegat, Ocean and Lacey townships had burned 12,500 acres as of 5 p.m. and forced 5,000 people to flee their homes.Yet only one business – a garage door and awning company in an industrial park in Lacey – was destroyed, along with several cars.
