Atlantic City Police Union Wants Pay Equity With Firefighters

Atlantic City police union officials say they want to see equity when it comes to how police officers and firefighters are paid. According to the Press of Atlantic City, Jules Schwenger, president of PBA Local 24, told city council that the new firefighter contract with the city means that after 12 years on the job, a police officer will make $20,000 less a year than a firefighter who has worked 12 years. The police memorandum of agreement does not expire until the end of 2025, Schwenger said Friday, adding that starting salaries between the two departments are about the same. But for those with 12 years on the job, a police officer makes $87,700 and a firefighter $107,000.
