Atlantic City will be one of three New Jersey cities to take part in a $15 million pilot program providing grants for construction upgrades to commercial buildings to increase energy efficiency. According to the Press of Atlantic City, it’s due to their high commercial energy use, because they represent different regions and most importantly, are considered an “overburdened community” under the state’s Environmental Justice Law. An overburdened community is one in which: at least 35% of households are low income; at least 40% of residents identify as minority; or 40% of households have limited English proficiency.
