On November 27, 2023, at 9:26 AM, patrol officers responded to Route 40 in reference to wires across the roadway and two broken electrical poles. It was learned that a City of Atlantic City employee was operating a roll off truck and had recently offloaded a dumpster. The driver failed to properly put down the boom before driving off. The boom caught the electrical wires, snapped the poles, and pulled the wires across the roadway. Route 40 in both directions was closed for several hours while personnel worked to replace the poles and wiring. There were no injuries reported.
