Atlantic Avenue ‘Road Diet’ Can Continue

Phase 2 of the Atlantic Avenue “road diet” from Tennessee to Albany avenues can continue this year if the city approves new contracts as expected. According to the Press of Atlantic City, several Boardwalk casinos and AtlantiCare filed suit in December to stop the slimming down of the artery from four travel lanes to two. They argue it will cause traffic delays that harm businesses and prevent ambulances from accessing the emergency department at the hospital quickly enough.
The city’s brief, said federal transportation agencies, state agencies and the city’s professional staff have all concluded that the road diet will not hinder emergency vehicles on Atlantic Avenue and will improve traffic flow.
